Research specialist GfK reports that sales of 4K/UHD TVs in the period January-October are “impressive”, and that sales in the UK, France, German, Italy and Spain, will “comfortably exceed 300,000 units,” according to GfK Business Group Director Nigel Callow.

In the UK, the total 4K TV sales volume last year was less than 4,000 units. In September 4K TVs captured a massive 17 per cent of the market in terms of sales.

GfK says sales are helped by a growing number of models in the market. Last year there were just 10 models available. Whilst today, there are over 50 options available and this number will grow in the build-up to Christmas.

The public is seemingly enthusiastic about buying large screen units. In September, 40 per cent of TVs in screen sizes 50-59” sold were Ultra-HD, and this continues to rise. The equivalent figure in 60”+ TVs for September is 57 per cent. It is fast becoming the standard for these sizes.
