US trade groups the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group are teaming up to promote the latest Blu-ray Disc releases and emerging home entertainment technologies to consumers.

The two organisations are collaborating to develop ‘The DEN (Digital Entertainment News) Presents Ben Lyons’, a year-long series of satellite media tours highlighting the most recent movie and television releases for home viewing and the best ways to purchase and watch them – physically through Blu-ray Disc and digitally through advanced Smart TVs and portable devices such as tablets, smartphones and computers. The tours will be hosted by renowned technophile and entertainment personality Ben Lyons.

Each month, Lyons will spotlight what’s new in consumer electronics home entertainment technologies while highlighting new Blu-ray titles from major Hollywood studios. As part of the series, Lyons will discuss the hottest Blu-ray Disc Combo Packs being released. Blu-ray Combo Packs provide consumers with a Blu-ray version of the movie or TV programme and a Digital-HD version for a laptop, tablet, phone or other mobile device. At the same time, Lyons will showcase the latest in immersive mobile and home entertainment technologies including 4K Ultra HD, the next generation of home display technology. 4K Ultra HD display products feature more than eight million pixels – four times the resolution of Full HD – and other possible future technical improvements designed to result in greater colour depth and an overall unparalleled home entertainment experience for consumers.

“Everyone loves movies and television shows and with all of today’s great technology it is easier than ever before to enjoy your favourite video content whenever and wherever you want to watch it,” said DEG President Amy Jo Smith. “With thousands of movies and TV shows to choose from and so many options to watch them on, there are almost unlimited choices for consumers. That is where pop culture expert Ben Lyons comes in – to help consumers navigate this exciting new landscape.”

“We are extremely excited to partner with the DEG on this video series as we both seek to help our members promote the latest and greatest in home entertainment – movies, TV programmes and playback and display technologies,” said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. “The intersection of content and technology continues to expand. This collaboration will help demystify this exciting and rapidly evolving landscape for consumers and grow the home entertainment market.”

Lyons’ first monthly segment will be December 16, 2014. In his inaugural show, he will highlight the hottest movies and television shows available for the holidays, with options for everyone on the gift list. Lyons also will show the best ways to enjoy these movies on a variety of devices.
