Spain: Smart TV take-up boosts pay-TV content

The expansion of Smart TVs is driving the increase in the consumption of pay-TV content amongst Spaniards.

This is one of the main conclusions from a report by Samsung and The Cocktail Analysis which reveals that in families with children the consumption of VoD and OTT services through their Smart TVs is significantly growing in a country traditionally unwilling to pay for TV content.

The report, based on a survey of 1,516 people, shows that 41 per cent of those interviewed are paying for watching certain TV programmes and around 91 per cent of connected TV users use apps to have access to TV content such as TV series, documentaries, films and children programmes.

Smart TVs are increasingly popular in Spain with eight out of 10 users saying that when buying a TV set they prefer a Smart TV. It is estimated that in Spain around 4.5 million Spaniards have a Smart TV set.
