January 19, 2015

Spacecom, the operator of the AMOS satellite fleet, has been selected for the third consecutive time to provide broadcast services on AMOS-5 at 17°E for the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Orange Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Africa’s bi-annual football championship competition. The competition is being hosted by Equatorial Guinea and is taking place from January 17th through February 8th.

SatLink Communications, a global teleport, content management and HD playout services provider, is providing SPORTFIVE Africa, a subsidiary of Lagardère Sports and the European and African leader in the management of marketing and audiovisual rights for sports, with AMOS 5 C-band capacity to uplink directly from the games venue in Equatorial Guinea. In addition, SatLink’s teleport will provide all ground services for the contribution of the tournament to Asia and Europe.

All games of the continent’s largest and most prestigious competition will be broadcast in HD via the AMOS-5 pan-African C-band. The tournament will be played by 16 national teams at four sites in Equatorial Guinea culminating in the championship game from Bata.

“The Orange Africa Cup of Nations is becoming more prestigious and interesting thanks to the high level of skill of African footballers and increasing impact of African football internationally. Therefore there is significant worldwide interest to broadcast the AFCON tournament and we are happy to have been selected by SPORTFIVE Africa and to take a center role and to provide them with the most reliable and effective solution for such a high-profile event,” commented Mylan Tanzer, Director Sports Services at SatLink Communications.
