From David Del Valle in Madrid

The period to complete Spain’s DTT migration has come to an end with the switch-off taking place overnight between March 30th and 31st.

It is estimated that 98 per cent of buildings in Spain out of the total 1 million (13 million homes) to be adjusted have already completed the retuning of its aerials to keep watching DTT channels on the new frequencies.

With the switch-off, Spain puts an end to a controversial process which has seen delays and complaints from the whole industry, at a cost of €280 million.

The initial deadline was January 2014, then the Administration postponed it until January 2015 and afterwards it was extended until March 31st 2015. But, another migration may take place in Spain in the near future, before 2020, the 700 MHz band will have to released by that time to the benefit of advanced internet mobile services.
