BT for 4K Cricket World Cup

April 13, 2015

BT Media & Broadcast was chosen by Star India to provide the complete 4K UHD Production and Transmission solution to their DTH playout affiliates in India for the recent 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup in Australia. It was shown as a ‘STAR SPORTS 4K’ Feed on the DTH platforms.

BT’s partner, NEP Australia, filmed and produced all seven of the live-to-air UHD matches (India’s four pool matches plus three finals) from the Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide venues.  NEP provided nine 4K cameras with optimal lens sizes determined by the camera position. Each game included UHD graphics, 4K replays, Dolby 5.1 and up-converted specialised HD camera shots.

BT Media & Broadcast Vice-President Mark Wilson-Dunn said: “We achieved a world-first by broadcasting several of the live international cricket matches in ultra-high definition 4k. We’re delighted to be leading the global field from a transmission perspective in making mass international live TV in 4K ultra-high definition a reality.

“Given the popularity of cricket it’s great that we were chosen by Star TV to provide this service. We monitored the live feeds in BT Tower in London and the picture quality was just stunning.”

Star India COO Sanjay Gupta added: “We will introduce many firsts and innovations in sports broadcasting to take the great game of cricket to the next level and provide an unprecedented viewing experience to the millions of cricket fans in India.”
