April 15, 2015

BBC Brit, one of the three new global genre brands from BBC Worldwide, made its international debut as a TV channel in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland on April 13th. The channel got off to a positive start providing strong overnight figures for launch day and becoming the most watched international channel in Norway, according to figures from TNS Gallup.

BBC Brit, which replaced BBC Entertainment, beat BBC Entertainment’s average share almost five times over in its key demographic (21-50). This meant that BBC Brit was the overall 8th biggest channel in Norway yesterday, the biggest channel in its competitive set and it attracted a higher share than Norwegian brands TV2 Zebra, VOX and Viasat4, amongst others.

Tobi de Graaff, Executive Vice President for Western Europe, BBC Worldwide said: “We knew that viewers in Norway love our programmes and we are thrilled to see how well BBC Brit performed on launch day against its competition. We are committed to continuing the channel’s growth over the coming months by offering exclusive first-runs of the best of British TV.”

BBC Brit is the destination for Top Gear with all new episodes having their Nordic premiere on the channel alongside shows featuring some of the biggest names in British TV including Graham Norton, Louis Theroux and Stephen Fry.
