RR Media restores Morph

May 11, 2015

RR Media, a leading provider of global digital media services to the broadcast industry, has announced that it has completed the restoration of Aardman’s classic series, The Amazing Adventures of Morph.

The fully re-mastered series is being launched exclusively on Morph’s YouTube channel. It follows intense interest in Morph after a successful Kickstarter crowdfunder campaign raised over £110,000 and part-funded a brand-new series of Morph which premiered on YouTube in 2014.

Marcus Gage, of RR Media Europe said: “What a privilege and responsibility it was to be able to restore such a loved character. When we began researching this project, it was clear that we had to get it absolutely right. The strength of the connection between Morph and his legions of fans, old and new, is very powerful.”

Gage continues: “One of the challenges of the restoration project was the lack of original negatives. To get around this we took prints from the BBC archive and worked off these. We then scanned the 16mm and put the series through automated and hand de-spotting before grading and putting the output into HD. To ensure we got the colour absolutely right we had actual pieces of Morph’s actual modeling clay as a reference point in the studios.”

Morph’s creator, Peter Lord said: “We’ve reformatted and polished up the whole thing. The picture is great. You can see the contrast between how it used to look and how it looks now. It is completely amazing.”
