Multiscreen, revenue assurance and media protection specialist Irdeto has confirmed a new deployment with Media Broadcast, Germany’s largest full-service provider for the broadcast and media industry. The Irdeto Integrated Management System, an essential pillar of the company’s end-to-end security offering, provides a hybrid platform which allows Media Broadcast easily to manage content security services across broadcast networks and internet networks targeting multi-screen devices.

Media Broadcast currently delivers content over a DVB-T network to more than 7 million German households, and in addition serves around 750 customers, including public and commercial broadcasters, TV and radio production companies, cable network operators, media authorities as well as private enterprises and public institutions.

In order to launch its DVB-T2/HEVC based content service, Media Broadcast required both enhanced flexibility and robust content security. By combining Irdeto Cloaked CA with Irdeto Rights, the management module of Irdeto Integrated Management System enables Media Broadcast seamlessly to operate content across broadcast and internet distribution networks, therefore removing the need for separate operation of CA based and DRM security.

The end-consumer DVB-T2 service will be launched by Media Broadcast within the 1st quarter of 2017. In the meantime Media Broadcast is testing the technology with a pilot project in the Berlin Region.

“The consumer fully expects to view content anytime and on any device, and that is something we must enable our customers to experience, whilst delivering content in a secure and efficient manner,” said Wolfgang Breuer, Chief Executive Officer at Media Broadcast. “In order to grow our business and retain momentum, we needed a unified, flexible and uncomplicated means of ensuring that content was seamlessly and securely delivered in a rapidly changing market. With Irdeto we have chosen an expert in this sector, as they are able to offer us the most comprehensive services to rapidly innovate now as well as provision for the future.”

“The need to manage premium content services across broadcast and multi-screen ecosystems is a growing trend for market leaders like Media Broadcast and other operators all over the world,” said Doug Lowther, CEO, Irdeto. “Varied distribution platforms and disparate security requirements have resulted in fragmentation and pose a challenging problem for premium content operators. Irdeto’s goal is to ensure Media Broadcast and similar operators can build a robust and future-looking offering that gives them the tools they need to easily manage security across broadcast and OTT environments.”

With a soft roll out planned to coincide with the UEFA Euro 2016 football tournament and a commercial launch in the 1st quarter of 2017, Media Broadcast is ensuring that its current and future content security needs are fully met at what it says is an exciting time for the business.
