Netflix has announced that new customers in the UK  will now be charged £7.49 (10.3) per month for the streaming service’s basic HD package, up from £6.99 under the previous pricing structure.

Netflix’s cheapest package – which offers SD playback on one device for £5.99 per month – will remain the same for the time being. The same applies to its premium package, which provides HD and 4K content on up to four devices for £8.99 a month.

In May 2014, Netflix vowed that those paying £5.99 per month will not see an increase for at least two years.

“In order to continue adding more TV programmes and films, including great Netflix series such as House of Cards and Better Call Saul, we are increasing our price for new members,” Netflix said in a note to customers.Netflix has also raised the price for new subscribers in Brazil. All other international services are unaffected.
