Vubiquity secures first-run content for Cellcom

June 30, 2015

Romanzo Criminale, the critically acclaimed Italian television series, will air in Israel this summer for the first time thanks to a new licensing deal struck by Vubiquity, a global provider of premium content services. The territory première will be accessible to subscribers of Cellcom Israel’s new video on demand service Cellcom tv.

The hit show has been licensed from Beta Film, and is the latest in a string of first-run territory releases secured by Vubiquity including award-winning political drama House of Cards, Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul, Outlander, Mozart in the Jungle, Masters of Sex, and Transparent.
Set between 1977 and 1989, Romanzo Criminale follows a criminal gang in Rome with a near-monopoly on the city’s heroin trade. As well as internal feuding, the gang has to deal with the police, the Camorra and the Sicilian Mafia. Based on the award-winning novel of the same name, the series is inspired by the real life events of the Italian underworld organisation the Banda della Magliana.
Cellcom tv, in partnership with Vubiquity, gives customers access to premium movies from major Hollywood studios such as Disney and Universal, as well as outstanding dramas, comedies and kids content from top suppliers, including BBC Worldwide and CBS International Television. Cellcom tv service also includes a wide range of local and regional content sourced by Cellcom Israel, including popular family television and children’s shows, documentaries and sports programming.
Yaniv Gruenwald, VP of Television and Content of Cellcom Israel, said: “Cellcom tv is proud to bring to its audience Romanzo Criminale, one of the leading and most cutting edge dramas that has come from the European market in the last couple of years. We are thrilled to join hands with Beta and to further enhance Cellcom tv’s unique and varied content offering.”
Adam Poulter, Managing Director for EMEA at Vubiquity, said: “It’s a highly competitive market for service providers and content is king. Because we have strong, long-standing relationships with many independents and a wealth of boutique content providers, we can secure the right content, on the right terms. I’m delighted that Cellcom tv is going to be the first in Israel to air this hit European TV series and the many other films and shows we have secured for them.”
