FTA La Liga matches on RTVE

Whereas pay TV operators -Telefonica, Vodafone and Orange- are involved in a fierce battle to offer the best football packages with low cost prices, public broadcaster RTVE has reached an agreement to air one La Liga and one Copa del Rey match on a free-to-air basis every week.

The deal with La Liga aims “to make football available for the whole audience,” according to RTVE.

RTVE is the first FTA channel to gain collective rights management and compete with pay-TV operators. The group has also purchased the rights to extensive recaps of every La Liga BBVA and Copa del Rey game from within Spain. Private TV group Mediaset has complained about it as other TV groups will only have access to very short highlights.
