August 14, 2015

Sky Deutschland will roll out a HD channel entirely dedicated to the James Bond film franchise this October.

The launch of the channel, branded Sky 007 HD, marks the first time the complete library of Bond films will be broadcast uninterrupted in Germany and Austria. The channel is will available to Sky customers from October 5th until December 6th.

Additionally, all Bond movies made by EON studios (not MGM) will be available on demand thorugh Sky Anytime and Sky Go.

“Experiencing this iconic franchise in a way that German viewers never have been able to before was our mission when we made plans to create a dedicated channel devoted entirely to James Bond. We’re excited that our customers will have the best Bond movie-watching experience ever: uninterrupted, in HD, on demand and on the go.”

The deal comes three years after Sky Deutschland’s UK counterpart secured a similar deal. The Sky deal marked the departure of the franchise from free-to-air commercial pubcaster ITV. The broadcaster’s existing agreement with the distributor, signed in 2010, ended in August 2102. ITV had screened the movies since Dr No made its UK small-screen debut in 1975. The titles have since returned to ITV.
