Spain: 2nd digital dividend in 2016
August 21, 2015
From David Del Valle in Madrid
The Spanish industry ministry will take the first steps to implementing a new digital dividend plan in 2016.
The plan will see the 700 MHz band released for next generation mobile services and will need to take place before 2020 to meet the objectives of the Digital Agenda for Europe.
A budget of €570,000 has been allocated to draw up the preliminary technical plan.
Spain completed its first major DTT migration on 31 March with around 13 million households having retuned their antennas so that the 800 MHz band frequencies used by DTT channels could be released for 4G deployment. The DTT migration cost around €103 million, well below the estimated figure of €280 million.
