India sets December 2016 for ASO

September 25, 2015

Readers may be forgiven for saying that they’ve heard the promise before, but the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has set December 31st 2016 as the date for the nation’s complete transition from analogue TV to all-digital.

TRAI’s Regional Head (for Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa regions), Sibichen K. Mathew, speaking September 23, said India’s four giant ‘metro’ cities plus 38 other cities had now completed their changeover tasks.

One of the benefits mentioned by Mathew would apply to telecom customers, and would include the ability for mobile subscribers to switch suppliers and keep the same telephone number, as well as registering preferences (or the option to curtail) tele-marketing and SMS sales messages.
