Over 75% of LatAm pay-TV subs can access TVE

October 29, 2015

A Dataxis report reveals there is a total of 53 TV Everywhere (TVE) platforms up to the second quarter of 2015 in South America and Mexico (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela), 15 corresponding to programmers and 38 belonging to pay-TV operators. Besides, the “TV Everywhere Market in Latin America 2015” study detected 2014 as the year with the largest number of platform launches to date, with seven new introductions.

Between 2014 and 2015, Latin American Pay-TV subscribers have seen an important increase in the supply of TVE platforms from programmers. To this trend was joined by subscription TV operators that bet on launching their own platform, some of them with exclusive contents and others just by gathering programmer’s platforms.

Thus, thanks to these new projects and to new agreements that were closed by previously existent platforms, TVE in Latin America (the 11 mentioned countries) has ended the second quarter this year with a penetration above 75 per cent over the total subscribers of the pay-TV market.

The report determined as well that the programmer with the biggest potential reach in TVE is ESPN, through both its platforms, ESPN Play (Spanish-speaking Latin America) and Watch ESPN (Brazil), with 64.7 per cent of the pay-TV market total. In this ranking, the second place was for Fox, with 59.5 per cent due to Fox Play. Nonetheless, Fox is the programmer that has more TVE arrangements with pay-TV operators, with a total of 49.

On another hand, “TV Everywhere Market in Latin America 2015” identified Colombia as the country with highest TVE penetration, since 94.6 per cent of pay-TV subscribers have access to some kind of platform. In second place is Argentina, with a 94.2 per cent penetration.
