France: Free launches 4K channel

November 5, 2015

Free’s fibre subscribers in France now have access to the country’s first 4K TV channel – Festival 4K – included in the basic offer of their Freebox package.

The French telco launched the first 4K box in March 2015 and is now also the first operator to broadcast a 4K channel, marking a new key step in the development of the 4K ecosystem.

Festival 4K, which is the first TV channel that is 100 per ceny 4K native – is entirely dedicated to music festivals, concerts, entertainment events and theatrical productions. The channel broadcasts pop concerts by artists such as Kylie Minogue as well as classical music concerts such as the Lang Lang concert at the Royal Albert Hall. It will also offer rock and pop festivals, ballets, jazz, soul, blues, and Latin music concerts, operas, contemporary circus and magic shows, and dance music events.

This new 4K channel is available to Freebox mini 4K subscribers on fibre at no extra cost, and can also be accessed by Freebox Revolution subscribers on fibre who have the Freebox mini 4K Player as part of the Multi-TV option.
