Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset has upgraded its Infinity video streaming service by adding content in Ultra HD and Dolby 5+1 audio.

In a European first, Infinity has signed an exclusive output contract with Warner Bros for eight box office hits in 4K (“300”, “Polar Express”, “Sherlock Holmes”, “Edge of Tomorrow”, “The Great Gatsby”, “American Sniper”, “The Wizard of Oz” and “Focus”). More titles will be added soon.

As part of a partnership agreement with Mediaset, Samsung will offer 12 months free viewing of Infinity for all those who purchase an Ultra HD Samsung set at Media World sales points.

Infinity subscribers that are already equipped with Ultra HD compatible TV sets (based on the Tizen platform) will not have to pay any additional fee to access the content in 4K.

Samsung has also announced it will soon enable customers to control Infinity content on TV sets directly from the smartphone, tablet and PC.

Meanwhile, Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore has reported that Vodafone Italia is planning to launch a TV platform in Italy in mid-2016 that would also include content in 4K. Tests are currently underway and the offer would include both free and premium content on demand.
