Advancing the Broadcast and Media Industry Forward with Industry Standards

Broadcasters and other media companies are at a critical juncture. Evolving video consumption preferences, demands for higher-quality content and shifts in the competitive landscape are forcing them to confront the need to transitioning operations to more nimble and versatile production, playout and distribution environments that leverage an IP-based infrastructure for the transport of video and audio.
Despite the growing urgency to evolve their operations, broadcasters are understandably concerned that the products and solutions they purchase today will become obsolete or incompatible with future products. To allay these fears, Imagine Communications has joined other leading media technology suppliers to form the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the education, awareness and promotion of industry standards for the transmission of video, audio and ancillary information over an IP infrastructure.
The group represents the interests of media companies and technology suppliers that share a commitment to facilitating the broadcast industry’s transition from SDI to IP through industry standards and interoperable solutions. It provides an alternative to proprietary approaches that stifle innovation and prevent broadcasters and other media companies from taking advantage of the economic and performance advantages of common off-the-shelf (COTS) computing and networking resources.
AIMS will promote existing and future industry standards and solutions based on those standards. It will work closely with the Video Services Forum (VSF) and other standards organizations to provide the broadcast industry with a seamless transition from SDI to IP. Most importantly, AIMS and its member companies will provide media companies with the needed assurance that the solutions they purchase today will be compatible with their facilities of the future.
