AMWA – making life simpler for IP-based systems

January 14, 2016

The AMWA’s Networked Media Incubator project (NMI) is currently holding the first in a series of interoperability workshops.

More than 25 people representing 14 organisations are contributing over the week.

One participant observed “At this workshop I’ve been able to sort out a problem in three minutes that would normally take three days!”

Organisations participating in the first workshop are Atos, AMWA, Avid, BBC, EBU, Embrionix, Harmonic, InSync Technology, Mellanox Technologies, Nevion, Panasonic, Snell Advanced Media, Streampunk Media and Suitcase TV.

The project goal is to deliver a framework for IP based media systems using interoperable and open specifications.  The workshop is about getting products to work – and getting them to work NOW!

“I’m pleased to say that this event has worked really well in providing an environment which helps to accelerate product developments.” says Brad Gilmer, Executive Director, AMWA.  “We look forward to more of these collaborative activities in the new future.”

For a long time, end users have dreamed of building large scale, “best of breed”, systems where products are chosen from a wide range of suppliers, based on the product’s individual merits.  The goal of this project is to support the development of products throughout the whole program chain which simply plug together and interoperate reliably.

Other participating companies which were not able to join the workshop for phase 1 are Aperi, Axon Digital Design, Barco Silex, Cinegy, Dalet, Encompass Digital Media, Ericsson, Evertz, EVS, Fox, Imagine Communications, Lawo Technologies, Matrox, MOG and Telestream.
