Local reports from Colombia say that Eutelsat is proposing a satellite partnership with Colombia’s Ministry of Telecommunications.

The proposal, quoted by local business newspaper Dinero, has Eutelsat offering “exclusive” access to 18 transponders for a period of 15 years on the satellite company’s Eutelsat 115 West B craft.  Additional is a suggestion that Eutelsat also helps construct a teleport in Bogota.

The plan is to see the satellite used to connect some 42,000 schools, 1800 health centres and hospitals.

According to the Dinero report, Colombia’s Ministry of Telecommunications, National Planning and the National Spectrum Agency (ANE) are studying the proposal.
