Sky partners with Unitron for Sky Q MDU products

February 22, 2016

UnitronGroup has partnered with Sky to create a new line of digital Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) products for Sky’s new home entertainment system, Sky Q. With the Unitron dSCR family of Outdoor Unit (ODU) Multiswitch products, Sky Q can be easily deployed to Sky’s hospitality customers, as well as customers living in flats.

Sky Q is Sky’s next generation home entertainment service, which will open up a whole new way of watching TV. Available in early 2016, Sky Q is a family of advanced products, connecting wirelessly to create a new ecosystem that makes it easier than ever for customers to access all their favorite TV, and brings an even wider range of entertainment to the big screen.

Sky Q will allow customers to watch on up to five screen simultaneously, while recording four other channels, pause on one screen and carry on viewing on another, watch shows from their box, whether live, recorded or on demand, anywhere around the home, and for the first time, to take their recordings with them on their tablet.

Unitron dSCR-54, dSCR-58, and dSCR-516 digital single cable ODU products allow the Sky Q set top boxes to receive all available content via an existing single cable run from the main satellite dish trunk system.  In addition to supporting the new Sky Q system the dSCR products support backwards compatibility to older Sky boxes and industry communication standards EN50494 and EN50607.

“Our new dSCR family is a winning solution for Sky to enable their groundbreaking new home entertainment system, Sky Q, for those customers residing in MDU residencies.  As industry leaders of analog single cable systems we are continuing to lead with next generation versions.” said co CEO’s Elisabeth and Philippe Lamaire.

“We are pleased that Unitron has delivered to meet our new Sky Q system needs with their dSCR Multiswitch products.  Our partnership will mean that even more Sky customers can take advantage of all that Sky Q has to offer.” said Andrew Olson, Director of New Products at Sky.

Sky Q will be available in the UK and Ireland in early 2016 joining Sky’s existing line-up of TV products, including the UK’s most popular PVR Sky+.  The Unitron dSCR product is Ultra HD ready in advance of Sky launching the UK’s most comprehensive Ultra High Definition service later in 2016.
