Sony has confirmed that it will launch a VR headset for Playstation users in October of this year. Priced at £349.99 (€446) in the UK and $399 in the US, the device is significantly cheaper than its main rivals and has been hailed by the firm as “a transformative experience in gaming”.
The technology will work with the PlayStation 4 console and it will immerse the headset wearer in 360-degree virtual worlds. Sony further added that 50 games will be available to play through the device before the end of the year, including Star Wars: Battlefront VR Experience.
Facebook’s long-awaited Oculus Rift VR headset is available in the US on March 28th for $599 and the HTC Vive will be released on April 5th for $799. Both require high-end PCs to function.
