DBW Communications has been selected by Italy’s public broadcaster RAI to film the new Sofia Coppola and clothes designer Valentino’s all-new production of Verdi’s La Traviata in Ultra HD/High Dynamic Range.

RAI.com have secured key TV rights to the event which will be captured in 50 frames/second using mainly Sony F55 cameras. The exciting production – with costumes from Valentino and his co-designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaulo Piccoli, will be filmed over two nights at Rome’s spectacular Teatro dell’Opera.

Sofia Coppola is making her operatic directing debut with this 15-performance production, and has been credited as wishing to bring a modern vision to the classic opera.

DBW has won critical acclaim for a couple of other Italian operatic 4K performances, not least La Boheme and The Barber of Seville during 2015, as well as working with Vatican City TV for the December 1st 2015 ceremony of the Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome which was captured live in UHD and sent around the world.
