French business newspaper Les Echos says that France’s BLOC association of independent film producers is firmly backing any cooperation deal that comes as a result of discussions between Vivendi’s Canal Plus and Al Jazeera-backed beIN.

The news report says that BLOC has formally written to the French competition authority and arguing in favour of a deal in order for Canal Plus to stay competitive against newcomers such as Netflix.

Canal Plus invests some €200 million a year in financing for independent French movies. Les Echos says that Vivendi boss Vincent Bollore recently met with a representative of the French movie producers and implied a renewed contract through 2020.
