Limelight boosts Channel 4 on demand

July 21, 2016

Content delivery specialist Limelight Networks has confirmed that UK public service broadcaster Channel 4 has chosen the Limelight Orchestrate Content Delivery platform to deliver its programming to viewers on demand.

“Channel 4 is known as an innovative trailblazer at the forefront of delivering our programmes to our viewers across the UK who prefer to watch on any device at any time,” said Declan Toman, New Media Operations Manager, Channel 4.  “Limelight is a key part of making this happen flawlessly and has always proactively evaluated our configuration and suggested ways for performance improvement.”

With over half of all 16-34 year-olds in its market registered with its All 4 on-demand service, Channel 4 has a high adoption rate of online viewers. To provide viewers the highest quality video-on-demand experience on the device of their choice, Channel 4 leverages the Orchestrate Content Delivery platform, which Limelight says is able to scale to meet unexpectedly high viewing demands and provides reliable performance consistently.

“Ten million viewers expect broadcast quality viewing of their favourite programmes at any given time on their phone, tablet or laptop,” said Jonathan Smith, Limelight group vice president for EMEA. “We take pride in making sure Channel 4 can give their audience a consistent broadcast quality experience, regardless of the demand and the sometimes unexpected traffic spikes.”
