Good and bad news for AT&T Q2

AT&T managed to see net growth of new subscribers on its DirecTV DTH pay-TV service expand by an impressive 342,000 subs. That’s the good news. The bad news was that its U-Verse TV users switched off at the rate of 391,000 during Q2. In other words, overall there were still net losses of 49,000 amongst its pay-TV users.

However, AT&T said that y-o-y it had now added more than 1 million net subs to DirecTV, and more than 80 percent of AT&T’s video users are now using its DirecTV service.

AT&T CFO John Stephens said that he expects “millions of people who don’t now subscribe to video and prefer a streaming service to be impressed.”

“We feel great about our customer base. With regard to that, we’re willing to invest dollars to retain and attract additional quality customers, whether here in the United States or in Mexico and Latin America,” he added.
