Canalplay sheds 91,000 subs
September 1, 2016
From Pascale Paoli-Lebailly in Paris
Canal+ Group’s SVoD platform Canalplay lost around 91,000 subscribers in France in the first half of 2016. On June 30th, the service has 614,000 subscribers against 705,000 for the same period last year – a near15 per cent decrease.
Canalplay, whose results would previously compensate the subscription losses linked to pay TV Canal+ channel and Canalsat bouquet, now has to compete with Netflix as well as SFR’s new Vice service. Since Vice’s launch, Canalplay is no longer carried by SFR.
