Vudu launches free ‘Movies on Us’

October 19, 2016

Vudu, Walmart’s subscription-free, premium video streaming service, has introduced Vudu Movies on Us, a new programme offering customers thousands of movie and TV titles to watch for free, and on-demand, with limited commercials.

Customers who log on to Vudu from their browsers, mobile or living room devices can now watch blockbuster and classic titles such as Mad Max, True Grit, Abduction, School of Rock all ‘on the house’ – no fees, no subscriptions, and limited commercials – in premium 1080p high definition.

“As part of the Walmart family, Vudu is always looking for new ways for customers to save money – and nothing is more affordable than free. With Vudu Movies on Us, customers can watch HD movies and TV for free, and on-demand, with limited commercials,” said Jeremy Verba, vice president and general manager, Vudu. “Millions of customers already buy and rent content on Vudu on a monthly basis. This new service provides value for customers who want to watch movies and TV for free, when and how they wish to watch, without sacrificing quality.”

Vudu notes that more than 42 per cent of American households stream content at home and most prefer to watch long-form content such as movies and TV from ad-supported services on their living room devices. Vudu Movies on Us is Vudu’s first foray into a free, high-definition streaming option and follows Vudu’s recent upgrades to bring the best premium experience to customers’ living rooms. Earlier this year, Vudu was the first to integrate 4K UHD with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos Audio.

To access Vudu Movies on Us, customers:

  1. Log on to Vudu on their web browser, mobile or living room device.
  2. Click on the ‘New’ tab on their desktop, or ‘Spotlight’ tab on their living room or mobile device.
  3. Click ‘Movies on Us’ to access thousands of free movies or TV titles with limited ads.

The Vudu Movies on Us titles include critically-acclaimed films, family-friendly features, date night movies, thrillers, documentaries and more. They stream in full HD 1080p resolution, with Dolby Digital sound when available, and can be watched across an extensive line of Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, and TV connected devices such as Roku, Chromecast and gaming consoles. Vudu is also accessible from the web and via downloadable app for iOS and Android, including the recently-released Mi Box Android TV device.
