Discovery launches Haunted Castle VR film

October 31, 2016

Discovery Communications has announced the worldwide release of its scripted 360° VR production Haunted Castle, a short horror film shot at the famed Corvin Castle in Transylvania, Romania, one of the largest Gothic-Renaissance castles in Europe. The initiative is part of Discovery’s continuous investment in VR, with the purpose of engaging fans and immersing them in its content on all platforms and screens.

Told in high contrast black and white and an eerie, intimate score, Haunted Castle 360° VR evokes monsters and maidens in tribute to the tradition of horror film and literature across Europe, particularly German Expressionism and, of course, Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Released just in time for Halloween, Haunted Castle is now available on the Discovery VR mobile app (IOS and Android) and DiscoveryVR.com, as well as a number of Discovery Networks-branded websites, official YouTube and Facebook fan pages.

“Discovery is known for immersive storytelling and the quality of our content, and Discovery VR is a great way for us to create a thrilling and distinctive experience for audiences. After launching the platform in 2015, we now have a robust programming line-up of more than 115 unique pieces of content. Haunted Castle takes the viewer on a powerful and chilling journey and we’re very excited and curious to see how fans will react to it,” said Paul Welling, Senior Vice President, Brand & Franchise Development, Discovery Networks International.
