India’s Reliance going UHD

October 31, 2016

Reliance Jio, a major mobile player in India, is to offer customers a 4K set-top box powered by the Android OS.

The boxes will work with Reliance’s 1 Gb/s fibre connections. Initially the STRBs will go to “enterprise”, higher-value clients.  Reliance says that two new high-end boxes will be available. The first will be powered with a Broadcom supplied chip-set. The other will run on a Marvell processor.

Consumers will need a suitable 4K television set to view content, and the devices come pre-loaded with Jio TV and Jio ‘on demand’.
