Spacecom orders AMOS-17 from Boeing

Spacecom, operator of the AMOS satellite fleet, has entered into a $161 million (€155m) satellite procurement agreement with Boeing Satellite Systems International for a new craft – AMOS-17 – expected to be launched in 2019.
The satellite will operate from 17°E and will expand and strengthen Spacecom’s coverage of the growing satellite service markets in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. AMOS-17 will be designed for an in-orbit life of more than 15 years with payload power of approximately 8.5 kW.
AMOS-17 will offer Ka-band, Ku-band and C-Band services. It will have a combination of broad regional beams and high throughput spot beams to maximise throughput and spectral efficiency. By providing extensive Ka-Band coverage over the Middle East, Europe and Africa, Ku-Band and C-Band over Africa, it will be a catalyst for Spacecom’s growth plans over the next decade, says the company.
