SES teleport plans on Isle of Man go ahead

February 6, 2017

By Chris Forrester

Last September, SES talked of plans for a major teleport on the Isle of Man. Those plans are now moving further ahead with detailed planning for four large dishes.  SES Satellite Leasing is making the application.

A formal construction application has now been made to the Isle of Man government. The plans call for four satellite ground antennas with their related buildings. The facilities are at the island’s Carnane Radio transmitting site, near Douglas.

The plan calls for 4 x 9 metre dishes, which will sit nearby – but separate to – the existing Arqiva transmitting antennas already serving the island.

The scheme supports the Isle of Man’s ‘Vision2020’ plan to grow the local economy and to help diversify the island’s economy. The development will be the first space-related high-tech investment in the island.
