NBCUniversal acquires Chance

NBCUniversal International Networks has announced the acquisition of Chance – starring Hugh Laurie (House, The Night Manager) – to air in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Poland, beginning with Poland in April 2017. Season One of the psychological thriller from Fox 21 Television Studios and acquired from Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, will then follow in the other territories in May 2017.  Season Two will premiere later in 2017.

Based on Kem Nunn’s novel, Chance is as a provocative, psychological thriller that focuses on a San Francisco-based forensic neuro-psychiatrist Eldon Chance – played by the Golden Globe®-winning actor, Hugh Laurie – who reluctantly gets sucked into a violent and dangerous world of mistaken identity, police corruption and mental illness.  After an ill-advised decision regarding an alluring patient, played by Gretchen Mol (Life on Mars, Spin City) – who may or may not be struggling with a multiple personality disorder, Chance finds himself in the crosshairs of her abusive spouse, who also happens to be a ruthless police detective.

Produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and Groundswell Productions, the series was created by Alexandra Cunningham (Prime Suspect) and Kem Nunn. Cunningham and Nunn executive produce alongside Hugh Laurie, Michael London (Milk), Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind) and  Lenny Abrahamson (Room), who also directed several episodes. Chance also stars Ethan Suplee (My Name Is Earl), Paul Adelstein (Prison Break), Lisagay Hamilton (The Practice), Greta Lee (New Girl), and Stefania LaVie Owen (The Carrie Diaries).  Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution distributes the thriller internationally.
