beIN partners with TMG to fight online piracy

Illegal viewership and sharing of near-live content undermines subscription networks, and beIN intends to protect its platform and content effectively. “We have appointed TMG to monitor beIN streaming piracy on a global scale”, said Mohammad Al Subaie, Executive Director of Commercial Affairs at beIN. “We are confident that TMG’s cutting-edge technologies and infrastructure will enable a strong protection of our contents and ultimately, of our rights”.
“Social networks and user-generated content websites have become straightforward places for fans to share content they don’t actually own the rights for”, said Bastien Casalta, Chief Technology Officer at TMG. “And aside from those, new pirate sites are launched on a regular basis, providing millions of users with illegal access to live sports, especially in Europe, North Africa, the Middle-East and Asia”.
The global partnership will entail content detection, monitoring, source identification, intelligence-gathering, investigations and enforcement. Mohammad commented, “The variety of Internet channels, the array of infringements and the evolving nature of piracy necessitated a 360-degree approach”.
beIN will be provided with a complete view of online content usage, which will serve as a basis for analysis. “Focusing your efforts on the right targets, as well as choosing the right course of action, are key success factors in an effective anti-piracy strategy”, said Casalta. “Our job is to provide beIN with a comprehensive toolbox, and the means to use it”.
Concrete measures taken by the new partnership will include live content removal, pirate link takedown and ultimately, legal action to close non-compliant websites permanently. “It will become much more difficult – and risky – for one to indulge in pirating beIN SPORTS’s premium content over the coming years”, asserted Casalta.
