The 40th meeting of Arabsat’s general assembly in Muscat, Oman, which wrapped on April 13th, agreed to exempt the Palestine Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) from any fees or debts for using Arabsat’s satellites.

Ahmad Assaf, chairman of the PBC, who headed the Palestinian delegation to the Arabsat meeting, thanked the assembly for their support for Palestine saying that “this support sends a message to the Palestinian people that the Arab nation still considers the Palestinian cause to be the Arabs’ primary cause”.

PBC was established in 1994 and first started broadcasting TV programming in 1996 from Gaza. Until 1998, the PBC was funded by the US government. Its Ramallah headquarters was badly damaged in 2002 by an Israeli airstrike which killed six people.
