Hackers threaten to leak Game of Thrones finale

August 21, 2017

Hackers, who have tormented premium broadcaster HBO in recent weeks, have now threatened to leak the Game of Thrones‘ season seven finale.

The HBO hackers reportedly contacted media outlet Mashable claiming to “have access to many HBO Platforms already” before adding that people should “be ready for GOT [episode 7] as soon as possible”.

Mashable reported the hackers also sent them a  batch of information included social media logins for @HBO, @GameOfThrones and @HBOWestworld accounts, although they did not attempt to login and verify this.

The hackers have already released unaired episode of HBO shows including Ballers and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

It has been widey reported that the HBO hackers are demanding a ransom of $6.5 million in the online currency Bitcoin for the reported 1.5 terabytes of stolen information that stole in July. Game of Thrones is already the most pirated TV show in the world, and thus experts have argued that due to the prevalence of TV show piracy, threats of releasing unaired episodes are not enough to coerce payment.

The news comes after the penultimate episode, Beyond The Wall, was accidentally leaked early by HBO itself last week. Before that, episode 4 was seemingly leaked from inside Star India where there were 4 arrests.
