RIP Elemental’s Sam Blackman

August 29, 2017

Advanced Television is deeply saddened to learn of the untimely death of Sam Blackman, co-founder of Elemental Technologies.

He led Elemental Technologies from a start-up before selling it to Amazon in 2015 for $296 million. He stayed on as CEO.

The editorial team at Advanced Television always found Blackman to be an enthusiastic and knowledgeable proponent of his company’s expertise, and welcomed his insights on industry developments.

“AWS Elemental has lost a passionate, visionary and humble leader and the world has lost an inspiring human being dedicated to community,” the company said in a statement. “Sam’s spirit will always be at the core of what we do. Sam loved his work, but his greatest love was for his wife and children. Our thoughts are with his family and all those he touched on his journey.”

Prior to co-founding Elemental in 2006, Blackman designed integrated circuit products for Pixelworks. Before joining Pixelworks, he held engineering positions at Silicon Graphics and Intel Corporation. He earned an MBA from University of Oregon, an MS in electrical engineering from University of California at Berkeley and a BS in electrical engineering from Brown University.

He leaves wife Adriane and two young sons to whom we offer our deepest condolences.
