Turkey, South Korea climb Netflix Speed Index

Netflix has released highlights from the August data from its ISP Speed Index, its monthly update on which Internet Service Providers (ISPs) provide the best primetime Netflix streaming experience.

South Korea rose ten spots to 40th in our country rankings, with an average speed of 2.82 Megabits per second (Mbps). The rise was bolstered by speed gains at KT and SK broadband. KT experienced a speed gain of 0.61 Mbps, increasing its average monthly speed to 2.95 Mbps, up from 2.34 Mbps in July. SK broadband’s average sped up to 2.62 Mbps, up from 2.18 Mbps in July.

Other significant speed gains this month include:

  • CAT in Thailand saw speeds climb to 0.60 Mbps, increasing its average monthly speed to 2.76 Mbps, up from 2.16 Mbps in July.
  • Neuviz in Indonesia experienced a speed gain of 0.60 Mbps, increasing its monthly average to 2.37 Mbps, up from 1.77 Mbps in July.
  • Zain in Saudi Arabia’s speed improved by 0.54 Mbps, increasing its average monthly speed to 1.97 Mbps, up from 1.43 Mbps in July.
  • Claro in Argentina’s speeds gained by 0.44 Mbps to an average of 2.49 Mbps, up from 2.05 Mbps in July.

In country rankings, Turkey dropped eleven spots to 37th with average speed of 3.07 Mbps. Japan dropped six spots to 30th and Portugal dropped six spots to 34th.
