Sky Q rolls out in Italy

November 23, 2017

From Branislav Pekic in Rome

Sky Italia has launched the Sky Q platform that allows customers to watch linear content, on-demand and recorded, on multiple TV sets and cable-free devices.

The Sky Q Platinum digital box, which connects to the satellite TV dish and the Internet, connects all home screens without any extra cables. It communicates wirelessly with other TV sets thanks to Sky Q Mini, and via the new Sky Go Q app, as well as all mobile devices.

It has a memory of 2 TB that enables the recording of up to 1,000 hours of content in HD and up to 4 TV programmes at a time, whilst a fifth is being watched.

Thanks to the Sky Go Q app, subscribers will be able to watch, outside the home, more than 40 TV channels, thousands of on-demand titles as well as pre-recorded content.

Over the next few months, new features will be added to the platform – such as 4K HDR suppor, the Sky Soundbox and Voice Control – that will make the viewing experience even more engaging and immersive.

The mono-screen version of Sky Q Platinum, the Sky Q Black, will arrive next spring, providing access to just the main TV set and mobile devices, including in 4K HDR. It will not be able to connect to the Sky Q Mini and the hard disk storage capacity will be smaller (1 TB).

Subscription to the Sky Q Plus package (includes the Sky Q functions and Sky Go app) costs €15 per month, while existing customers that have been with the operator for more than 6 years will pay €4 per month. In addition, there is an installation fee of €199.
