Mobile TV is the TV distribution platform that has seen the highest growth in Italy over the past two years, according to the 2017 Censis report on the state of communication and media.  In fact, Mobile TV doubled the number of users, going from 11.2 per cent in 2015 to 22.1 per cent.

DTT remains as the main source of TV viewing, for 92.2 per cent of users, although it dropped 3.3 percentage points.

Satellite TV (DTH) remained stable with nearly half of Italians tuning in (43.5 per cent in 2017), while internet TV (web TV and Smart TV) grew by 2.4 per cent since 2015, to 26.8 per cent.

The report also indicates a slowing down of the growth of the internet (+1.5 per cent on 2016), which now reaches 75.2 per cent of Italians. Also, 11.1 per cent of Italians watch online video platforms such as Netflix and 10.4 per cent listen to online audio services like Spotify.

Finally, the percentage of Italians watching movies online went up from 19.5 per cent in 2015 to the current 24 per cent (among under-30s the figure is 47.4 per cent).
