India’s public broadcaster Doordarshan has generated 736 million Rupees ($14m) by auctioning off 29 transmission slots on its digital terrestrial service, DD Direct Plus.

The amounts generated are some three times higher than a previous auction which sold off 21 channels for a total of 168 million Rupees.

It is now reported that Doordarshan will sell off another 87 channels  as it raises its overall transmission capacity from 59 channels to nearer 150.
