Canada’s Rogers unveils next-gen home entertainment
February 27, 2012
Canadian cable communications and entertainment company Rogers Communications has unveiled NextBox 2.0, a suite of new features designed to transform the home entertainment experience, allowing people to access live and recorded TV programmes from any room in the home. The initiative better allows it to compete with telco BCE’s Fibe IPTV service.
“Canadians are increasingly looking for seamless, easy-to-use and flexible ways to fit all their favourite entertainment into their busy schedules—including the latest TV programming, movies, music and more,” said John Boynton, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Communications. “NextBox 2.0 makes next generation television technology a reality by delivering a whole home entertainment experience that gives our customers complete control over where, when and how they view their favourite shows and live programming, he advised.
Rogers selected the Cisco Videoscape TV architecture to evolve its current TV platform with Web Services-based technologies to deliver new and improved television viewing experiences to complement the Rogers NextBox 2.0Interactive Programme Guide and Whole Home PVR.
Mark Kummer, vice president, Service Provider, Cisco Canada, said that Rogers was demonstrating how forward-thinking service providers could evolve their cable TV offerings to Cisco Videoscape and offer customers an immersive IP-based video entertainment experience.
