A Chinese-financed broadcaster is due to enter Korea’s digital television scene next month. A Chinese-owned firm, Pan African Networks Group (PAN), is set to roll out its digital television transmission next month to compete with state-owned Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) which has just launched its own 11-channel DVB-T2 service on Kenya’s Signet DTT system.

PAN was awarded its transmission licence last October and promises transmissions will start by mid-May, initially with services from Nairobi and rolling out to 65 per cent of the nation by the end of the year.

PAN is part of the fast-growing StarTimes Holdings business, headquartered in Beijing, China. StarTimes has TV projects in eight African countries, including Tanzania, Nigeria, Burundi, Rwanda, Guinea, the Central African Rep., Mozambique and now Kenya.
