Entropic Communications powers ethernet-over-coax Network adapter from Asheridge Communications

May 8, 2012

Entropic Communications, a specialist in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, has announced its MoCA (Multimedia over Coax) silicon and software solution will power the echoBox, a new Ethernet-over-Coax Network Adapter, offered by European equipment maker, Asheridge Communications.

Smart TV’s, HD set-top boxes and online gaming consoles in the home require a fast, reliable Ethernet connection with the highest quality of service to ensure optimal picture quality, zero interference and low delays to reduce buffering time. Leveraging Entropic’s MoCA technology, the echoBox was designed to distribute high-speed video and data around the home by using the unused frequency space on the same coax cable that carries the digital terrestrial (DVB-T) signal or cable TV signal. With its simple plug-and-play connection, the echoBox turns any home with a coax cable network into a fully wired Ethernet network, capable of streaming HD content and high speed data.

“What’s exciting is that with Entropic’s proven MoCA solution, we’re allowing custom installers to easily make every TV point in the home a wired Ethernet socket,” said Jason Dando, business development manager, Asheridge Communications. “Without installing any new wires, the echoBox delivers a fully wired network all around the home; all with no configuration or setup needed. Our echoBox allows installers to extract maximum potential from the coax’s capacity and offer their clients optimum Internet connection and speed without expensive, invasive rewiring for faster turnaround times onsite.”

While consumers enjoy reliable whole-home entertainment networking between all consumer electronics (CE) devices with the fastest performance and video and data delivery connectivity, home installers gain significant revenue-driving benefits too, including:

—  Easy install in minutes with no specialist IT configuration
—  Opportunity to provide customers the best TV viewing experience with
high speed data and video streaming throughout the house
—  Ability to eliminate Wi-Fi dead spots with Wi-Fi extension; increasing
coverage around the home
—  No new cables to run or holes to drill
—  Ability to connect up to 16 devices on the same network within the home

“Wired connectivity remains an essential part of the home entertainment network — especially in Europe where we see a growing trend for Internet connectivity, content and services on Smart TVs, through online gaming and catch up TV,” said Al Servati, vice president of Marketing, Connectivity Products, Entropic Communications. “Because of this trend, we continue to expand our market in Europe. Our relationship with Asheridge is another strong proof point where the need for MoCA as a high performance, robust and reliable Internet connectivity backbone is required to distribute HD and online video across multiple CE devices at the same time.”
