BT Vision adds 21,000 subs, YouView bundles confirmed
July 25, 2012
BT added 21,000 subscribers for its IPTV service BT Vision in the second quarter of 2012 to reach a total of 728,000 customers. Growth was slower than than the previous quarter, but the UK telco expects growth to pick up again once its new football-focused channel arrives in time for the 2013/2014 Premier League season.
The company has also confirmed that it plans to launch YouView bundles this autumn. The service will “appeal to customers looking for the next evolution of the Freeview service,” claimed BT. The telco is a partner in the joint venture, along with the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Arqiva and TalkTalk.
BT added another 2 million UK homes and businesses to its fibre footprint in the three months to June, bringing the total to in excess of 11 million premises.
BT recorded a pre-tax profit of £578 million for the three months to June 30th, up 6 per cent year-on-year, but revenues were down 6 per cent and stood at £4.4 billion. BT’s CEO Ian Livingston attributed this to “tough conditions in Europe and the financial services sector”.
