TI Media sells PPV ops to Airplus

October 20, 2008

Telecom Italia Media (TI Media) has agreed to sell its pay-per-view activities to Swedish group Airplus TV. The Italian operator will spin off the activities into a new subsidiary controlled by Airplus and in which TI Media will continue to hold 9 per cent. Telecom Italia will also provide bandwidth for transmitting the pay-TV channels at Airplus over the Telecom Italia Media digital network. The companies expect to finalise the agreement by the end of November.

The move is in line with Telecom Italia Media’s strategy announced in August, to move away from pay-TV activities and expensive content purchases and focus more on its analogue channels and DTT. Airplus is already active in digital TV in Sweden, Finland and Spain.
