Mediaset has reported a 85 per cent increase in the turnover of its pay-TV service on DTT, Mediaset Premium, during the first six months of 2009.

The increase is 70 per cent if all activities connected to Mediaset Premium are taken into account, such as the sale of content. At the end of June, the service had 3.5 million active pre-paid smartcards and is targetting a turnover of E500 million in 2009, compared to E400 million last year.

According to Mediaset vice president, Pier Silvio Berlusconi, the expectations regarding digital terrestrial are very high, especially in view of the fact that "Sky Italia's growth has slowed down". He added that the viewing figures of the DTH platform dropped by 2.5 per cent in Sardinia, since the introduction of DTT.
