Vodafone Germany new IPTV offering

August 18, 2009

Reports in Germany say that Vodafone Germany has stopped marketing its ADSL-based IPTV service to new customers. Instead the telecoms company is preparing a new IPTV offering, with a possible launch in mid-2010. Until then, Vodafone will revise the offer, developing and exploring increasing convergence between fixed line and mobile services. 'We will tailor our IPTV product to fit the demands of the market,' commented Vodafone spokesman Paul Gerlach.

Vodafone Germany's fixed line subsidiary Arcor launched the IPTV service in May 2007 in the city of Kassel via its subsidiary Netcom Kassel. After successful testing, a full launch of the service followed in 51 cities in October. Vodafone dropped the Arcor branding of its German fixed network subsidiary this month to reflect the integration of the two companies.
