Portugal’s public broadcaster RTP has introduced a new content interface that allows the creation of “channels of opportunity” for viewing on the Internet and on mobile devices such as “tablets” and mobile phones.

One of the novelties of the RTP Play project is the possibility of creating “channels of opportunity” for “immediate response” to certain events, according to RTP’s co-ordinator for communications, Marina Ramos. The new project will launch with the channel Presidential Elections 2011, which will be available on RTP’s Internet page, providing content on the ballot, the debates, and interviews with the candidates.

The project, which involved the companies ClusterMedia Labs, create it and Fullsix, enables users to see the RTP channels at any time and place, including both live broadcasts and archive programming aired on different channels.

Other features of the RTP Play project include the binding of content to social networking; navigation per channel, theme and programme and scheduling of programmes.
